"SIEGE" RESPONSES: I've had a mailbox full of comments on the poem "Siege" (scroll down to read the work)ranging from "ummm...I dunno about this" and "it's a bit too strong" to "brilliant" and "bravo." Someone also asked if I was influenced by Diamanda Galas, and the answer is yes. Galas is the piano virtuoso, opera singer and performance artist who produced the amazing Plague Mass about the US government's total failure to deal with the AIDS crisis. Diamanda is a brilliant artist. She's been on my stereo a good bit lately, especially her new work La Serpenta Canta and Defixiones, which is a cycle of music and words about the Armenian, Anatolian, Hellenic, and Greek genocide. Her website is www.diamandagalas.com.
